Celebrate the San Antonio Abad Fiesta at Arona Tenerife

Every January, the charming town of Arona in Tenerife holds the annual San Antonio Abad Fiesta. With a variety of activities planned out for locals and tourists, the fiesta of San Antonio Abad is bound to be an exciting week.

Although the actual festival accounts for only one day in the week, celebrations go on for seven days. The week long celebrations of the fiesta San Antonio Abad are mainly focussed on music and food. The festival is dedicated to San Antonio Abad, the patron Saint of the islands. This saint was known for his work in a diverse range of subjects from skin diseases to domestic animals.

Lots of Live Entertainment

The most important day of the festival is also the busiest. The whole town gathers to crown its beauty queen on Saturday and hosts an open air party with great revelry.

Live entertainment like music and dance is the main focus of the day. The festival takes a religious turn on the Sunday morning where locals gather in large numbers dressed in traditional costumes of the Canary Islands. A large procession is the main attraction on the last day of the festival.

The city of Barcelona also hosts a slightly different version of Saint Anthony’s day which occurs around mid January every year.

If you are curious about the local customs of the Canary Islands, now is the perfect time to book cheap flights to Tenerife and join the festivities. Boasting of a pleasant climate throughout the year, the Canary Islands are more than just a sun and beach destination.
