See the Natural Sights on Tenerife

Although primarily known for its superb beaches and the plethora of restaurants and hotels that have been built to accommodate the wave of tourists from all over Europe, Tenerife is home to several natural landmarks.

One of the most intriguing is the spectacular Mount Teide, a volcano that towers above the island. At over 12,000 feet, it’s actually the highest point in the whole of Spain.

A Volcano That’s Still Active

Technically, the volcano is listed as still being active, although its last major eruption was more than a hundred years ago. For tourists, there is a cable car which transports passengers close to the summit, and such a trip offers a wonderful opportunity to enjoy some absolutely stunning views. The chances are you will end up taking some of the most spectacular photos of your entire life.

As well as the top of the volcano itself, there is plenty more to do in the local vicinity. The whole area comprises the Teide National Park, and features some truly impressive scenery. Sections of the well-known movies One Million Years B.C. and Clash of the Titans were filmed within the park itself.

If you’re currently debating the destination for your 2012 holiday, you will be pleased to hear there are a great number of cheap flights to Tenerife to be found on the Internet. As well as the beautiful Teide National Park, other attractions include the impressive Los Cristianos Harbour and the Tenerife Zoo Monkey Park. There’s so much to see and do on this amazing island.
